Rocscience builds the software that engineers use to model ground. Its magazine is updated when a software release calls for it and handed out at industry conferences. The 2026 edition was a full redesign: the senior designer set the art direction, and I designed a set of spreads inside it. Under the direction, creating necessary graphic assets, imagery, and organizing the contents were on my hand.

The problem was how to deal with heavy copies. Each page carries more text than anyone will work through as one block, and none of it is optional. I set 6 columns as default and break the copy into units that hold their own shape, with a clear hierarchy let them distinguishable at a glance.
